HOW PETRIFY WOOD TREATMENT WORKS

PETRIFY is a solvent based formulation. Solvents immediately displace free water when applied to wood. Silicones are water scavengers that penetrate the wood fibers and trigger the release of the internal water. The water is replaced with the cedar oil gel and Silica. This wood treatment protects the wood from the future uptake of water (rain, snow, lawn sprinklers, etc). The cedar oil is encapsulated in the wood and provides perpetual protection from insect and fungal organism attack.

The wood is water resistant from the inside out. Wood fiber without moisture and deposits of silicon represent the early stages of petrified wood. It further performs as a termiticide and a fungicide.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND IT

Onetime. Lifetime. Treatment. The ultimate in wood preservation. This dynamic product triggers the early stages of wood petrification. PETRIFY is a low viscosity penetrant, not a coating. THE ABSENCE OF WATER IS THE ABSENCE OF ISSUES. Prior to treatment with PETRIFY, wood contains two types of water; free water that is harbored in the fiber structure of the wood and bound water which is harbored in the cellular/molecular structure of the wood. PETRIFY is a non-toxic, solvent based formulation that displaces all water when applied to wood. It modifies the molecular make up of the wood, leaving it water, insect, mold and decay resistant from the inside out.  Petrify Cedarshield is the wood treatment chosen by ABC Extreme Home Makover!

When Smiling Suns was at our house to quote our deck, they left the cup with just a little bit of the Petrify in it. Just fooling around I used a little bit of it and painted (with my finger) a small piece of cedar wood with it. Most of what was left I put on my cork hot pads.
Two days later, we gathered all the trash in the house and took it out to the burning pit. My
husband always adds about 5 pieces of wood so everything burns good. He set fire to everything and about an hour later he stirred the ash to make sure the compacted magazines had burned.
While stirring everything up, he came across two chunks of wood. One was the block of wood they brought that was treated with the Petrify. The other piece was the cedar that I had painted with my finger. I figured the treated chunk of wood wouldn't burn because it soaked for so long. But the piece I painted with my finger is what amazed me. It really didn't have very much Petrify on it yet it didn't burn either.
So yes, I would definitely say Petrify is fire resistant.
