Texas A&M Receives EPA Grant to Address Pesticides Use
(DALLAS – March 2, 2011) The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $53,000 to Texas AgriLife Extension Service to promote Integrated Pest Management (IPM). The project will develop data to track patterns of insecticide use and how it affects black margined aphids.
IPM is an effective and environmentally sensitive approach to pest management that relies on a combination of 
common-sense practices. The program breaks down the life cycles of pests and their interaction with the environment. The information is combined with available pest control methods and used to manage pest damage by the most economical means and the least hazardous to people, property and the environment.
EPA encourages the innovation of biological pesticides which include naturally occurring substances or biochemical pesticides, microorganisms or microbial pesticides and pesticidal substances produced by plants containing added genetic material.
