Dirty Air Act (H.R. 910) passed with Dirty Money

On April 6, 2011 the US Senate voted on four separate proposals to block or delay efforts by the EPA to reduce carbon pollution. The House of Representatives passed Rep. Upton’s “Dirty Air Act” — legislation that would permanently allow our nation’s biggest polluters to dump unlimited amounts of dangerous carbon pollution into our air. Did your representative vote for the bill, putting the interests of corporate polluters before the health of the American public?  In Texas, they did.

We took this opportunity to express our disappointment with our representative, Pete Olson, who voted “yea” on the Dirty Air Act.  We urge you to check out an amazing website called Dirty Secrets to find out if your state representative voted for big Air polluters and against public outcry, how much money they received from big polluters, and how many children affected by asthma will have a harder time breathing in the future.

Dear Pete Olson,

By voting for Rep. Upton’s “Dirty Air Act” (H.R. 910), you chose to stand with polluters, instead of standing up for public health and national security.

Plain and simple, dismantling the Environmental Protection Agency’s ability to address life-threatening carbon dioxide and other pollution puts our health and national security at risk. By voting for the Dirty Air Act, you voted for more air pollution that harms public health. You also voted to derail car-efficiency standards that would reduce our reliance on foreign oil.

Finally, your vote puts you squarely opposite to public opinion. Poll after poll has shown that Americans strongly support the EPA’s role of protecting public health from pollution and want Congress to let the EPA do its job.

I am extremely disappointed by your vote for the Dirty Air Act, a vote against public health, national security and public opinion. I hope you will not repeat this mistake if other measures to gut the Clean Air Act come before the House.

Sincerely,

Wondercide Organix
