Question: I am very interested in your natural flea product for cats, however I have been researching this and found that cedar oil can be toxic to cats because their liver cannot detoxify it. Do you use a different type of cedar oil? How do you know it is safe for cats and kittens?
Answer: To answer your question simply, Yes, our Cedar Oil is different. It is a modified Eastern Red Cedar oil that is properly diluted with a hydrated silica carrier oil at a 90% ratio. It is not known to be harmful to cats or kittens because it does not contain phenols. Essential Oils high in phenols are difficult for cats livers to detoxify and could be harmful. Wondercide products do not contain phenols. We verify every batch that goes into our products to ensure superior product quality and performance.
What is the story behind Wondercide? There are many types of cedar trees that oil and other natural pet
products come from. Some cedars are not only harmful to cats and dogs, but humans as well. There are many claims and statements surrounding this topic. However, most of the information does not specify the type of cedar for which the claims are made. When you research if cedar toxic to cats, understand that this “general” information coming from a range of places should also be explored further to ensure claims being made are specifically applicable.
All cedar oil is not created equally and all cedar trees are not from the same family. For example, western red cedar can be toxic to animals and humans, yet play spaces are made from it because it is known to repel insects and prevent decay. Wondercide products use Texas Red Cedar and Eastern Red Cedar that is additionally modified through a steam distillation extraction and fractionation process.
I want to read more on Cedar and CatsAgain, Wondercide Cedar Oil is not like other cedar oils. All soap is not alike. All essential oils are not the same grade. All chemicals in spot on flea control are not the same or formulated at the same percentages. To make it a bit clearer, the toxins in other types of cedar relating to cats and small animals are phenols and high level hydrocarbons, chemical components in essential oils (there are over 180 components in cedar oil). There are zero phenols in our cedar oil products, making it the safe choice for your family.
Wondercide products fall under the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) system and are EPA exempt from pesticide registration because they are known to be safe. (your vet can’t say that about prescription and OTC chemical treatments) If your cat ingests substantially large amounts, it may cause loose stool because it is an oil. They may eliminate hair balls easier too. We’ve also received feedback that some cats and dogs become calmer or seem “mello”. This is because the cedar oil fragrance has been used for centuries as an aromatherapy for relaxing humans, as well as dogs and cats.
With cats (and dogs), we always recommend treating the environment (home pest control/outdoor pest control) first and mist the cats and kittens as needed. Cats are more sensitive by nature, no doubt, and caution should always be taken to protect your pets health.

What happens if the cat grooms itself shortly after being treated? Won’t the product be absorbed into the bloodstream then?
Great question. Yes it would, but the product contains no phenols, which is the compound toxic to cats. There is nothing in Wondercide products that will make cats sick. Some cats have hairballs more often or loose stool if they ingest a large amount. By large amount, I mean the owner doesn’t treat the environment and sprays the cat over and over every day to try and get rid of the fleas. That isn’t how Wondercide Evolv works. We recommend treating the environment to eliminate the fleas, eggs, larvae & pupae. Mist the cat for protection on a routine basis. Evolv will kill fleas on contact and repel for short periods of time.
