Mold on wood patio furniture and decks can cause deterioration over time. It’s best to remove 
mold as soon as you see it with a natural, non toxic cleaner that will not harm animals, children, or plants. There are many commercially available options to remove mold on wood but there are also inexpensive home remedies that work just as well. One of the options is white vinegar. Once the mold on wood is removed, then you can apply Wondercide PETRIFY™ to seal the wood and protect it from future mold growth.
To clean mold on wood patio furniture with white vinegar, remove all cushions and spray furniture down with a water hose. This removes the leaves, dirt and dust, preparing the surface of the wood. Using a spray bottle filled with vinegar, spray the mold on wood furniture or deck and let stand for 10-15 minutes. Re-spray and scrub with a brush or sponge to fully remove the surface mold. Rinse the vinegar and mold off of the wood furniture with a water hose. Remove excess water and prepare for sealing the wood.
Alternatively, another option to remove mold on wood furniture and decks prior to sealing is by power washing. You can rent or buy power washers from local and national hardware stores (or borrow one from your neighbor). This takes a bit more time, effort, and skill but it is a very effective method of making old wood look new.
Customer Question: Is it better to power wash our wooden deck furniture BEFORE applying PETRIFY? I did two pieces and did not power wash or clean the mold on the wood and they still have green mold on them……..What do you suggest?
Wondercide: It is always good to clean and/or power wash a wood service prior to application with PETRIFY, especially if it has existing signs of mold or is aged wood. It is not necessary in order to kill the mold but it helps aesthetically. As PETRIFY penetrates into the wood it will push out moisture and stop future mold growth. Applying the product to a surface with existing green mold will not immediately remove the surface visibility of the green mold. So, you can power wash, use a deck wash, wood cleaner, etc to remove it or the wood surface will still have that appearance until it dies off.
