1. How dry should the wood be?

PETRIFY wood treatment is a penetrating solution, not a coating or stain. The product works best when applied to wet wood and the time of day does not matter. Unlike other wood products, it can even be applied in the heat of the day. The surface can be sprayed down with water prior to application but there should not be standing water or pools of water when you apply PETRIFY with CedarShield.

2. How soon after application can the deck be contacted by water or rain?

Once the product is applied, it penetrates through the wood and can’t be “washed off” or diluted by water. Rain should not effect the results of the application. This is a permanent wood treatment that strengthens over time.

3. Is the finish of the deck dry to touch after application or it will be sticky?

PETRIFY with CedarShield works as a penetrant vertically and horizontally wicking through the wood, and will not leave a sticky residue. There is not a sticky “feel” to the product before or after application. It is a very thin solution that looks like water and smells like cedar.

4. How soon after application can stain be applied?

Wood treated with PETRIFY can be stained prior to application or after application of PETRIFY with CedarShield. We recommend waiting 72 hours before or after applying PETRIFY to apply any stain or paint. Oil based stains and paints are more compatible than water based.

5. Is any special preparation of the wood required prior to application?

It all depends on the condition of the wood and the desired outcome. If it is an old deck, many people chose to strip the deck down to its natural finish first. Some chose to power wash the deck. While others chose to sand and power wash. If it is a new fence, deck, dock, or any new construction, simply wetting the wood prior to application will give you the best results.

6. What is the warranty if any?

We offer a Limited Warranty valid for standard residential applications. The applicable Warranty Period is indicated on the original invoice, or on the product end tag. If there is no other indication, then a One Year Limited Warranty shall apply.

7. Should the product be applied frequently year after year or at any intervals?

If the proper amount of PETRIFY with Cedarshield is used on the initial wood treatment to fully penetrate the wood, it is a one-time lifetime treatment. Repeat applications should not be necessary, but if desired, it will only enhance results.

8. Does it change the color of the wood?

PETRIFY with CedarShield will not change the color of natural wood, OSB or any other wood material.  When the wood treatment dries, the wood will remain it’s natural color.

9. Does this wood treatment provide UV protection?

Wood naturally greys year after year with exposure to the sun.  While there is some UV protection, wood treated with PETRIFY may gray naturally up to 15% per year.

10. Should I stain the wood treated with PETRIFY to further protect it from the elements?

You do not have to stain or paint natural wood to have a beautiful wood structure with long lasting protection. Many PETRIFY customers simply use a $20 deck wash once every year or two to “rinse the grey off” and bring the wood back to its amazing, natural color.  PETRIFY with Cedar Shield will provide all the wood treatment protection needed to last a lifetime.

Wondercide’s crew volunteered their time and donated 120 gallons of its revolutionary new product, PETRIFY, to the project. Working in conjunction with Blu Shields Construction, the Wonder-workers participated around the clock to coat the interior and exterior SIP panels, second floor decking and roof with the ONETIME, LIFETIME wood preservative. With the builders facing a week of untimely cold and wet weather, the non-toxic wood penetrant protected the wood and allowed the project to proceed.

After a week of non-stop work and coordination among hundreds of volunteers and project managers, the 6,300 sqft. house was revealed to the Beach family and the Clear Lake community on January 14th.
