National Love Your Pet Day

National Love Your Pet Day

In honor of this year’s “National Love Your Pet Day”, we’d like to share some ideas to help you let the dogs and cats in your life know how much they mean to you. Why just dogs and cats? We get it, some of you have welcomed reptiles, pigs, chickens, horses, and little furry critters of many kinds into your home and here’s to you. But to help us focus, let’s go with the top two pets in U.S. households, according to the National Pet Owners Survey conducted by the American Pet Products Association. (Would you have guessed freshwater fish round out the top three?!)

OK…so why even celebrate this day of love for our pets?

Here’s a top-10 list and we were just getting started:

  1. They’re always ready to love us (even when treats aren't involved).
  2. They cheer us when we’re sad.
  3. Their Instas and Tik Toks keep us going.
  4. Their antics make us smile and laugh every day.
  5. They play hard and remind us to have fun too.
  6. They teach us how to be in the moment.
  7. They get us moving and grooving.
  8. Their snuggles are everything.
  9. They’re just sooo cute.
  10. They fill our lives with happiness.

So here we go, a few thoughts to get your pet-pampering planning underway and help you prep for National Love Your Pet Day.

For all the kitties out there:

Get outside! Cats are natural explorers but many don’t love walking alongside on a leash. Take your cat on a hike and watch them get excited. This Fat Cat Backpack will make the adventure fun for both of you. Check out the bubble observation port. Every cat wants one.

If you’re going to let your cat roam on leash a bit, don’t forget to apply plant-based Flea & Tick Pets + Home in your cat’s favorite scent before they walk about so gross bugs don’t go home with you. The 4oz is just the right size for your cat and to carry.

Let them resort at home with a cat cave. Cats love hiding in small places and feeling protected, so give them the ultimate place to do that: a cat cave. It’ll help reduce their stress, give them a warm place to hang out, and generally keep them purr-fectly happy. (Yeah, i know, but who can resist saying that?)

These 5-star cat caves from Etsy have us swooning, but you can also make your own. Just grab a box and an old sweater, then follow along with this tutorial from incredibusy.

Give a massage. When you’re cat’s ready for some cuddles, see if they’re open to massaging strokes that come with extra benefits, like increasing circulation, instilling a sense of calm, and helping them feel refreshed. The experts from animalwised.com will show you how. Check it out and if you’re in doubt, consult your vet for the green light.

For the doggos:

Walk a new route. What do dogs love more than walking? Walking while exploring a new place with all its smells, sights, and sounds. Scout out a new spot for a romp and watch your pup get excited.

Before you go, apply Flea & Tick Pets + Home in your dog’s favorite plant-based scent so bugs stay outside and don’t make their way back home.

If a quick bath is needed when you get home, grab one of our soothing shampoo bars to get clean and moisturize.

Make some healthy but tasty snacks you can both enjoy. Baked sweet potato chips are super simple to make and your dog will love the crunch. Plus, they’re packed with good things like fiber as well as vitamins A, B, and C. As with any new treat or food, don’t overdo it and try a small amount to make sure your dog’s tummy is good with it.

Parsnipsandpastries.com has a fun recipe with a hint of cinnamon.

Watch a pet-filled flick together. Many dogs love watching TV because they love spending time with you and checking out what’s going on around them. This article shares insight from The Dog Whisperer Cesar Millan, who recommends choosing a show that’s filled with pets to grab their attention. Nature’s good too. So lean in close, give some pets, and turn the remote to something fun.

Need a few ideas? Mydomaine.com shares their list of top 18 dog movies.

So there we have it. A few things to do to show just how much your pet means to you.

Ready for even more love? National Love Your Pet day is a great day to welcome a new bestie into your life. Reach out to your local shelter and give a forever home to a dog or cat who’s waiting to love you more than anything in this world.

Tracey’s Bio:

Just like my mom, I’ve never met a stranger. One love, y’all! Speaking of love, I love people for sure, and pets, and the planet, plus the simple things like strong, organic coffee in the morning, sunlight that helps me feel hopeful, and a warm summer breeze. Flip flops make my feet their happiest. I’m a vegan Texan. (Yes, we do exist, especially here in Austin.) My guilty pleasures are good tacos, natural wine, inspired architecture, and thought-provoking arts. Let me travel the world and see the wonders.
