Remember when Wondercide was on Shark Tank? What a whirlwind! Well, our very own city of Austin has a Shark-Tank-like competition for nonprofits called Philanthropitch. Philanthropitch provides promising social impact 501c3s with both human and financial capital. The event takes place on Monday, May 2nd at Zach Theatre. Winners of this fast-pitch contest receive $100,000 and are admitted into Mission Capital's Mission Accelerator to advance their organization. Since it was started in 2013, Philanthropitch has awarded$375,000 in funding to 30 mission-driven organizations, as well as invaluable advice from industry leaders for the winning nonprofits.Philanthropitch Austin is presented in partnership with the Notley Fund and Mission Capital and involves 8 judges who are responsible for choosing the best nonprofits of the bunch.
Now, after pitching Wondercide to the Sharks on national TV, our Founder & CEO Stephanie Boone is excited for the tables to turn as she participates in Philanthropitch as one of the judges. The board of judges consists of successful entrepreneurs, leaders in the Austin business community, and passionate philanthropists, each bringing a unique viewpoint and valuable experience to the table for the competing nonprofits. The other judges for Philanthropitch Austin 2016 are:
- Lynn Atchison – Vice Chair, Austin Technology Council
- Joshua Baer – Co-founder and Executive Director, Capital Factory
- Leon Chen – CEO, Tiff’s Treats
- Clayton Christopher – Founder, CAVU Venture Partners
- Caroline Goodner – CEO, OrganiCare

Wondercide & Philanthropy
Stephanie is particularly enthusiastic about the opportunity to be a part of growing Austin's nonprofit community since giving back is a key part of Wondercide's culture. Wondercide offers a unique Volunteer Time Off Program, in which employees have 24 hours per calendar year to volunteer at the nonprofits of their choice during normal working hours. Through this program, Wondercide encourages employees to immerse themselves in causes that inspire them without worrying about how to make time forit. In addition to individuals volunteering at local nonprofits, Wondercide also participates in charitable initiatives as a whole.
If you run (or volunteer at) a non-profit that could use a hand from Wondercide, we'd love to see how we can be of service. Just drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org. To check out or post about Philanthropitch on social media, use the hashtag#PHILANTHROPITCHATX.
