Oh autumn, how much do we love thee? We love the orange leaves. And we love nourishing our family with orange-hued sweet potatoes. Their earthy sweetness and nutritional richness make them a staple in our fall recipes, from casseroles to pies. But what about for our dogs?

Dogs are beloved members of our families, and as pet owners, we always want the best for our furry companions, including their diet. Store-bought treats might not always be the healthiest option, often containing additives or preservatives.

Creating homemade treats ensures you know exactly what your pet is consuming. Sweet potato chews are not only a delicious treat but also offer numerous health benefits for dogs. Rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, they're a great alternative to commercial dog treats. Making these at home is a simple and cost-effective way to pamper your pet.

Ingredients

1 large sweet potato, peeled. That's it!

Yield: About 36 chews

Cook time: 2 hours and 30 minutes

Directions

Preparation: Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).

Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.

Slicing: Cut the sweet potato into 1/4-inch slices crosswise. If there are larger slices, cut them in half for more manageable portions.

Baking: Bake the sweet potato slices in the preheated oven for 1 hour. After this time, turn the slices over to ensure even cooking. Continue baking for an additional 1 1/2 hours.

Cooling: Once the slices have been baked for the total time, turn the oven off but leave the sweet potato chews inside. Allowing them to cool in the oven helps further dehydrate and crisp them.

Storage: After the chews have cooled completely, transfer them to an airtight container or zip-lock bag for storage.

These homemade sweet potato chews can be given to your dog as a nutritious snack. Store them in a cool, dry place to ensure they maintain their freshness.

Ensuring the health and happiness of our furry friends is paramount, and doggos love sweet potato chews! Homemade sweet potato chews offer an excellent alternative to store-bought treats, providing essential nutrients without any added preservatives or harmful ingredients.
