Show off how fun it is to play in the leaves – Stella says please
5 minute read
As children, we all remember the brisk air, crisp crinkle of fall leaves – and the excitement of launching ourselves into leaf piles just as soon as they were stacked up. There’s a reason jumping in the leaves is such a fond memory from our childhood. It’s good for the soul and makes us happy. How many opportunities do we have to go outside and throw around some of nature’s colorful confetti? It turns yard cleanup into fun quality time with those we love.
Unfortunately, a lot of people now avoid leaf piles because they can be an ideal environment for ticks and fleas. Although fall’s cooler weather brings some relief from summer bugs, ticks and fleas remain active through near freezing temperatures. They prefer shady, moist, and cool areas – and love to be in the leaves. A single tick bite can transmit a number of diseases, so the best way to stay healthy is to avoid being bitten in the first place.
Thankfully, when used as directed, Wondercide products have made it safer for us to play in the leaves, just like we did when we were kids. So we can reclaim those leaf piles again! We want you to go play in the leaves with confidence, and show us how much fun it is. Enter your leaf play pictures or videos in our Reclaim the Leaf Pile Contest! We have several categories, so no matter how you like to play, there’s a category for you.
“Outta the car, open the door, I run, run, run, run, spring off, jump high, middle dive I split that big leaf pile right in two – whoooo, hooooo– now I want to see if you can post some video for me to watch too,” says Stella, leaf peeping and leaping expert, @DogNamedStella
Show us your leaf piles!
This is exciting, bringing back the joy of playing in the leaves for new generations while combining smart flea-and-tick repellency and prevention. We think that’s worth celebrating. Show us your pictures or videos of fun in the fall leaves.

Safety tips for playing in leaves
Let’s go over some safety tips for playing in the leaves. Grab your rake and gather your family, friends, and fur-babies. It’s time for some care-free fun in the leaves. All products mentioned are available here at a 15% discount.
Treat your yard. Before the leaves fall and while they are falling, treat your yard with Flea & Tick Yard + Garden spray. The spray will kill, repel, and prevent fleas and ticks. Do two initial applications within a few days and then use monthly to keep fleas and ticks out of your backyard fun.
Treat the leaf pile. For added peace of mind, before you rake and after, treat the leaves and the pile you build with a quick spray of Flea & Tick Yard + Garden.
Use Insect Repellent spray on yourself and the family. Use a repellent on your skin so ticks don’t want to bite or hang out. Wondercide’s Insect Repellent will repel ticks and mosquitoes, and it kill when they’re sprayed directly. Re-apply every hour or as needed.
Use flea & tick prevention on your pets. Protect your pets with Flea & Tick Pets + Home spray. For an added layer of protection, choose Flea & Tick Collar or Spot On.
Wear proper clothing. Wear long sleeves and long pants. Tuck your pants into your socks or shoes, which will help prevent the ticks from finding your skin.
Pick the right location for your piles. Keep leaf piles off sidewalks and streets to prevent hazards. This will help drivers on the road keep a clear view, and it will help prevent children from playing too close to the road. Plus, the soft ground makes for better landings.
Keep an eye on the piles. Always supervise children and pets while they play in the leaves. Make sure they stay away from car traffic, and know where they’re at the entire time.
Perform a tick check. Give yourself and your family a check after you spend time outdoors. On the family, pay particular attention to the inside of the belly button, under arms, on the back of knees, in and around hair, and around the waist. On pets, pay a little more attention to the belly, in between the toes, near the ears, and around the tail. A tick could be the size of a poppy seed. Use a magnifying glass if needed.
Happy, safe, leafing from your friends at Wondercide! We can’t wait to see what you share.
